PhD Students

Picture
  • Álvaro Torras Casas analysed the persistent Mayer-Vietoris spectral sequence
  • He had his successful viva in January 2022 and is currently a post-doc at the Universidad de Sevilla.

Picture
  • Sam Richardson studies rational characteristic classes associated to higher twists over \(SU(n)\) via exponential functors
  • He had his successful viva in April 2023 and is on the job market for post-doc positions.

Picture
  • Valerio Bianchi looks at \(C^*\)-algebras with applications in topological quantum field theories

  • Georgios Tridimas is working on topological invariants of \(G\)-kernels on strongly self-absorbing \(C^*\)-algebras.

PhD Co-Supervision

  • James Binnie (main supervisor: John Harvey) is working on using finite samples to estimate geometric quantities with topological data analysis
  • Tasarla Deadman (main supervisor: Gandalf Lechner) is working on quantum field theory and operator algebras, in particular the Yang-Baxter equation
  • Shauna Ford (main supervisor: Mathew Pugh) is working virtual knots and the Brauer category
  • Mahdie Hamdan (main supervisor: Pieter Naaijkens) is working on operator algebraic methods in topological phases and quantum information

MPhil Students

  • Declan Bays is working on understanding the moduli space of Riemann surfaces.

MMath Students

  • George Tridimas is working in 2023 on the project Categories and classifying spaces, which involves understanding the construction of classifying spaces of topological categories and the proof of Bott periodicity given by Harris.
  • Tom Coles worked in 2022 on the project Euler characteristic and the classification of surfaces.
  • Thomas Davies worked in 2021 on a project titled The topology of currency exchange. It was about the basic ideas of homology applied to currency exchange rates between countries.
  • James Blake finished his MMath project about Homotopy Groups in 2020.
  • Iwan Jones worked on the same topic in 2017.
  • I co-supervised the Masters thesis Representations of completely rational chiral conformal field theories and modular tensor categories of Felix Haas in 2012.
